Karmic Saturn in Leo

Your karmic Saturn in Leo holds the secret to manifesting your soul purpose.

Leo symbolizes your karmic responsibilities, duties and obligations. Its shows you what you need to do, and how to structure your life to achieve your soul purpose.

It's about facing your karmic (Leo-related) fears. Then step-by-step… living empowered Leo. Think of it another way…

Saturn in Leo is the karmic reality you need to face about yourself. And once you do that, it becomes your bridge to accomplishment in the material world: the answer to your “how”.

e

Fears to face:
Disappointment in others

Commitment to make:
Wildly applauding yourself!

Clues to “doing” your purpose in the real world

With karmic Saturn in Leo, you're here to expand your CAPACITY for COURAGEOUS LOVE and CREATIVE EXPRESSION, by facing your fears around relationships.

You're here to love and accept yourself first – and then be the inspired leader you were meant to be.

Saturn is ruled by pragmatic, uber-dependable Capricorn. In its highest sense, Capricorn is the “stable, dependable father”. But when stressed, Capricorn can also be rigid and emotionally cut off.

Saturn symbolizes the area of life in which you'll feel some challenge and constriction. And where you're being called to face reality.

And... Saturn is not meant to be easy!

Therefore, “doing” your karmic Saturn is not meant to be easy peasy. Especially when it's in dramatic, playful, Leo who loves to love: you may feel as if this side of you is blocked.

Saturn abhors laziness. But these earthy energies also reward effort. Your progress will be in proportion to how much effort you put in to turn your Saturn around. Progress may be slow, but don't give up!

Your karmic Saturn in Leo is asking you to face your resentments and feeling of emotional inadequacy because of OTHERS LETTING YOU DOWN.

Your first task is to realize that LOVING and TRUSTING YOURSELF is enough. Your second task is then to courageously share your heart with others: in romantic relationships, and through your creations.

Does Leo scare you a bit?

Does the mention of “romantic disappointments” and “courageously sharing your heart” make you feel a bit squeamish or scared? Or anger you?

That's understandable. Saturn's dampening influence can make anyone shy and awkward. There can be a lack of vitality and self-confidence in this painful Saturn position.

Saturn in Leo may have difficulty freely expressing love – or “holding back”. Or fear putting too much energy into a creative project (or your love relationship) and getting nothing back.

But committing to your Saturn in Leo not only helps shifts these deep feelings that you may never be loved for who you are – it's the key to manifesting your soul purpose. You can read more about Saturn in karmic astrology here.

Yes: manifesting your Saturn will require some emotional fortitude. Just like the courageous lion! But your efforts will be worth it.

When you manifest your Saturn, you'll no longer be dependent on the attention, adoration or recognition of others… you will recognize yourself and it will be enough (to start).

Your capacity to love, create freely and inspire others… will be earned.

How Leo karma might show up in your life

From a karmic point of view, Saturn in Leo symbolizes past lifetimes where you didn't “do” Leo in a healthy way, or you didn't even try!

So instead of embracing a path of purposeful Leonian love or meaningful creativity, you stay quietly in the background, hoping that an “idealized” someone will notice you. Or you get caught up in negative Leo extremes.

After running away from healthy Leo in past lifetimes, in this lifetime your soul may respond in a number of ways:

  • You continue in the extremes of negative Leo: you're a petty tyrant at home, a domestic dictator, demanding others adore you; or
  • You over-compensate by cutting yourself off from love, and creative expression (but have a hidden desire to be loved); or
  • You project your unhealthy Leo by creating other people who bitterly disappoint you, which may lead to resentment. However, this really reveals your (karmic) self that needs to be faced and healed.

Leo is a fire sign. When healthy, Leo is spontaneous, expressive and full of life. Combined with Saturn, it's seriously creative, emotionally generous and has the potential to be a great leader – and partner.

But Leo also gets so heartbroken when life doesn't live up to its imagined ideal.

When hurt, Leo curls up and licks its wounds. But this heartbreak has a golden lining. It can lead to introspection… and the revealing of the True Creative Self (who has no “need” for applause).

Share your heart authentically: but skip the bling

This process of self-reflection and acceptance of your own creative essence (if you will)… leads to courage, wisdom and the ability to share your heart in a new, more authentic way.

However, until then you may hide your vulnerability with a “cold heart”. You may cut yourself off from love, stop creating, loudly declaring “never again!”

You may demand (and get) others attention, but you find it's never enough. You wait to be recognized by the legion of fans that you feel you deserve.

Even if you do gather a following, instead of fulfilment, you experience obsession for more, more, more!

Saturn in Leo can at first feel purpose-less...

Saturn in Leo can sometimes result in a crushing loss of purpose and meaning of life. You have so much to give. But on some level, your love is conditional. Unconsciously, you seek a “guarantee” back. Hint: your task is to get free of this unconscious process of “barter”: that's when you begins to shine.

Saturn in Leo is very creative and has a great deal of love to share. But this will not come without effort. It's like the link between your intuition and creative flow is blocked, and you struggle with owning your capacity to create. Renowned astrologer Liz Greene calls this “spiritual and creative constipation”.

You're being called to be patient with yourself and realize: you need nothing (or no one) else to “complete” you. This is your “pearl inside” – and once claimed, you can truly begin to give, receive – and express your unadorned Self.

When you commit, that's when your life will change...

When you commit to your Saturn in Leo you'll trust yourself – and others more. You'll find meaningful purpose in life. You'll experience true love, not the “up on that pedestal” “rose-coloured glasses” kind. Instead of demanding love, loyalty and honour from others, you will embody and inspire it!

When you walk the road of Saturn in Leo, you'll see creative potential all around you. You'll experience trust in the universe… and yourself: finally claiming who you really are, without the walls, defenses – and blinding bling.

This is amazing potential, right? But when you have Saturn in Leo, it's like your thrusters are being throttled. You may be rigid and inhibited. Your self-expression feels blocked. Which is why Saturn in Leo can often show up (first) as disappointment or not receiving the love or recognition you crave.

To determine Saturn's challenges in your life, ask yourself…

Do you put your love interests on a pedestal, they can never live up to – so they inevitably disappoint you?

Do you (secretly) need centre-stage? Are your loud declarations, covering insignificance on the inside? I know, ouch…

Do you imagine yourself dancing, fun – but find it difficult to be spontaneous in real life?

Are you resentful of others who have let you down, and find it difficult to forgive? So you've shut yourself down from love?

Are you secretly envious… of others who have meaningful lives, or give and receive love easily: “the grass is always greener”?

You get the idea. These are some of the painful symptoms of “shadow” Leo.

The “gold” of these Saturn in Leo symptoms, is that the discomfort it meant to force you to look inward. In time and with effort, your Creative Self will be at the centre of your world (which is different than being “self-centred”).

Your loneliness and dependency on others disappear. You will shine (for you are a star and a creator at heart). And… you'll radiate so much energy, that you'll not only accept the spotlight (so to speak)… but selflessly share the spotlight with others.

Does this resonate for you so far? If so, what's the source and what can you do to transform your Saturn in Leo?

Possible Saturn in Leo past lives

“Psychic energy does not vanish, it just takes another channel.”
– Liz Greene

Here are some past lifetimes that might relate to karmic Saturn in Leo. Hint: these themes may also be symptoms of present Saturn challenges.

  • An abandoned or unloved child, whose parents loved the “idea” of children, or a child being an extension of themselves (never recognizing the child's individual Self)
  • A gambler (addict) who gets off on the high of the game, but who is emotionally childish and addicted to the rush
  • A woman whose love was unrequited and who shut her heart permanently, becoming envious, bitter, cruel and petty
  • The leader of a country whose need for power and adoration turned to megalomania, and cruelty when thwarted (an aside, Hitler had Saturn in Leo – yep)
  • A person who is a “black hole of affection”, never receiving enough, always demanding more – wearing their loved ones out
  • An actor or leader who was ridiculed, humiliated or even assassinated while on stage
  • An aging actor, who was vain and refused to grow up
  • An autocratic Royal (literally Royalty, or a Queen Bee, or King of the Family type), who barked orders and treated everyone around them as servants and slaves.

Recognizing your karmic Saturn in Leo in your life

“What we hate in others is consciously living within us.”
– Liz Greene

Your fears, projections and overreactions in this lifetime may have their roots in past lifetimes.

Your fears

  • Feeling insignificant, inadequate, inferior, despite talents and love given by others (their love and attention doesn't take the feeling away…)
  • Avoiding love and dating due to fear of heartbreak, disappointment, rejection (again)
  • Feeling deeply that you are not lovable or deserving of love
  • Fear of getting old, going to ridiculous lengths to look young: plastic surgery, dressing age-inappropriately, always seeking the fountain of youth
  • Terrified of being the centre of attention, or too visible, refusing leadership
  • Fear of humiliation or even assassination, if you do become too visible.
  • Terrified of your creative gifts not being appreciated, applauded, rewarded and awarded (so you do nothing, or despair if you don't create blockbusters)
  • Difficulty letting go, being playful, having fun: stiff and inhibited (yet deep desire to be able to play).

Your projections (karmic mirrors)

  • Read the fears and overreactions – are you married to (or close to) someone like this – who pushes your buttons? There you go…
  • When you are rejected as a “leader” you take it very personally (making you reluctant to take on leadership again)
  • Repeated rejection in romantic love (Hint: I know this sounds trite, but start with self-love and acceptance)
  • You keep meeting, working for or marrying bossy, autocratic, demanding people (who are showing you what you've been)
  • You are reluctant or unable to have children, denying yourself the experience; or if you do have them, children bring burdens or pain (instead of loving you unconditionally… as you imagined it in your romantic mind)

Your overreactions

  • Excessively responsive to others (but this is based on a fear of disregarding anyone, possibly due to actions in a past life, or a bossy person in your current life)
  • Overly focused on and “needs” media attention, visible accomplishments, admiration (reality TV or selfie junkie?)
  • Even if you don't mean to, when upset, you attempt to dominate loved ones by being melodramatic, cruel, ready to fight
  • You bark demands at subordinates, treating waiters, servers, assistants horribly – like slaves (or you know someone like this - yikes).
  • At times, you may reject or “do not care” about living a purposeful and creative life (yet not happy with life as it is)
  • When stressed, you protect your vulnerability with cold or callous behaviour, “heart of stone” – but secretly desire love (of course you do - this is normal).

Three steps to claiming empowered Leo

Keep in mind that these aren't really a linear “process”, it's a lifetime unfolding. But hopefully, they're a good place to start.

Step one: Read up on Leo

Read about the energy of Leo to understand its highest potential – and it's pitfalls. Notice your emotional reactions, that's where the growth is.

Step two: Face your Leo fears

When fears of vulnerability come up, take that as a clue. Stay open to receiving insights on your present or past life that might help explain your symptoms. Tears mean yes.

Step three: Commit to empowered Saturn in Leo

When you're looking for “How” to launch a venture, make a move, manage a situation: look to healthy Leo. Choose a career, where you're entertaining or inspiring others, and where you can make a powerful, dramatic impact. Work with children. Whatever you do, you are the leader, not the follower.

Activities that align with healthy Saturn in Leo

(Are you already doing some of these? Awesome!)

Here's something interesting. “Namaste” has a number of subtle meanings. One is: “the divine light in me bows to the divine light within you”. Saturn in Leo embodies this idea: honouring self and other.

Here are some other ideas:

  • A professional in business? Become an inspirational (or entertaining) speaker, or study management styles that use emotional intelligence (rather than fear-based top-down rulership).
  • Be disciplined (Saturnian) about nurturing your creative and artistic talents. Don't give up. However! Use creativity as a vehicle for expanded consciousness first, and then go get your audience second.
  • Organize your life or career to protect children, entertain them, or encourage their creativity and play.
  • If it resonates, explore and get to know your inner child. Create a safe space for your child to be joyful and spontaneous. And (or) when you spend time with children, play. Allow their innocence and imagination… to affect you.
  • In your personal development work, learn how to honour, love and respect yourself, instead of requiring admiration from others (this is a lifelong journey for you).
  • At times, be willing to take calculated risks that will lead to confidence and empowerment. Courage is feeling fear: and doing it anyway. Idea: Learn to sing! Or do acting, or comedy improv.
  • Study the cultural mysteries of love, relationship, do the love languages quiz, as a vehicle for self-growth. And to enrich your closest relationships. Write a love story!

Last word. Saturn in Leo is not about being overly giving. It's about finding your inner spark… linking it with life. And sparking the life in those around you.

Creating a world where you can vulnerable, freely love, share ideals, feelings… and fill the room with your essence.

Whether you create art, song, intellectual ideas, business ventures – or your creation is a child of your own: getting a hold of this golden flow is your task.
